i made it!

home computer 1, school computer 0. my trusty ol' dell knows how to speak my language.
i am using this post to request that miss writer and/or SLS give some background on the photos that appear on miss writer's flickr page (silly me! i almost wrote flicker!). i am very curious about the bevy of mutant vegetables.
on that note, i will share with you a little fact i recently learned from my esteemed roommate, educator of today's youth on the past. (mind you this will be a summary based on my memory of what she told me. certain details may be a little off or missing)
so, people started out as hunters primarily. but that was a hard and unpredictable life. you never know if you are going to come across an animal, and if you do, will you be able to kill it? so then they started noticing that some of the wheat buds didn't pop as they were supposed to (into flowers i think?). and these unpopped buds were edible. so, they took these tasty mutants and planted them so they'd have even more tasty mutants. many of the things we grow now are actually the mutant variety of what they originally were.
i don't think i presented or explained that well enough, but it totally fascinated me when i heard it.
now put that in your pipe and smoke it!

woo hoo

the freak veggies are from a tomato festival in granby, massachusetts. Our long long lost NHWC alum Sarah Ingraham is working and kissing (I guess?) at this farm, and made the remarkable vegetable freak show, which is really what got me off my duff and into massachusetts on that fateful day in august...veggie freaks.

excellent post sarah! the organic vegetable freak show was a work of nhwc-affiliated brilliance (but of course!).
